And all this without the spells you get from the specs. They can heal ppl quite often (edit: which you can't do in DAI), they have many ways to attack (which goes from elemental attacks to summoning hundreds of tiny insects to destroy the enemy in seconds), they can paralyze enemies, weaken them, make them vulnerable, make them sleep, plant spirit bombs on them, protect or inprison someone with a force field, prevent people from regenerating health, bless allies with diverse glyphs, instakill mages or deprive them of mana, cause the enemies' attacks to miss very often, mass-paralyse ppl. Oh, regarding the mages specifically: they lack the flashy basic attacks, yeah, but the sheer number of very diverse and useful spells you can choose more than makes up for it. That's why many people consider it better then DA2 and DAI.
